runnaway imagination
the sun begins to rise
no birdsong
just the sound of spoons hitting gently against the coffee cups
he sits down at the table outside Cafe03
sipping the bitterness of sweet coffee
life's such a wonderful game - good fun too
a bell rings, the morning paper arrives
i remember the first gal i had. what's her name? claire? boy, the time and money spent on her was oh so long and oh so much. well, i had my fun
his eyes fall on the reflection in his coffee. he adjusts his hair.
and i had jazz as well.. man she was hot. too bad i found phyllis.
deep in his own little world he is, comepletely drowned in self-admiration.
in bliss and ignorance.
in lust.
in sin.
mmm.. great coffee..wow..
he eyes the young waitress as she walks over to serve a customer
relationship after relationship
followed by failed marriages
breaking hearts over and over again
that's the way he has been playing life's game of love
he stands up, brushes past the sweet, slender waitress and walks down the street.
each step taken with a full sense of self-confidence
or of pride, rather
there seems to be a familiar force coming down on his heart
suppressing it, as though trying to stop it from pumping any further
it's the cupid again..shooting yet another arrow..
he laughs to himself
ha ha.
he decides to stop walking
he moves slowly to a corner near the sidewalk
fixing his tie, he lies down
ha ha.
he remains there.
the sun has risen
no birdsong
no sound of any spoon hitting against the side of any coffee cup
no heartbeat
just a body
of a cold-hearted
creature
who never knew till his death
how much he'd lost
by moving from one relationship to another
by getting married without commitment
by breaking hearts
by not knowing what true love is
he'd had his fun
he had yet to learn
and yet to realise how much he'd lost
he played this game
with his rules
this is his happy ending
-yet another story
by me-
